Owning my own business has always been a dream of mine. On Labor Day weekend 1993, I opened my own resale shop called "Learn's Consignment and Resale." Ten years later on Labor Day Weekend 2003, I had the grand opening for "We Sell Your Furniture." It's funny, because I didn't even realize that the openings were exactly ten years apart until about a year ago when I came across an old newspaper article about the grand opening.

Growing up in a family of ten, we rarely bought new furniture. My mother has been refinishing furniture for as long as I can remember. When she's not working on a piece of furniture, we'll find her painting a picture or crocheting. Everything in her house has a story! I have inherited her appreciation for recycling pieces with real character.

I remember in the late 1980's walking into an upscale clothing consignment store for the first time. I was immediately sold on the concept! While living in Los Angeles, California and in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, I was intrigued with the upscale furniture consignment stores that I visited. When I moved back to Pennsylvania in 1999, I became a real estate agent. As I assisted families in buying and selling their homes, time and again I would hear my buyers and sellers discuss the need to do something with their old furniture. Some of my clients were downsizing, upsizing, or moving into a retirement community. There were other families who were faced with selling their parents home after a death in the family and they had no idea what they were going to do with a house full of furniture.

One summer day in July of 2003, I was showing a client a beautiful, log building that he thought would make a terrific restaurant. When I stepped inside, I saw MY future! All of my dreams about opening an upscale consignment store came back to me full force and I could see it, right there in that building! A couple of months later, I opened our doors.
